Lens on Nature

Brown pelicans feed by plunging from great heights above the water, and their diet is almost exclusively fish. A pair of Brown pelicans often fly in formation while fishing, each mimicing the others movements precisely, as shown in PWS #4.

White Pelicans do not plunge from the air into the water as Brown Pelicans do, but fish while swimming (PWS #6). They will often "herd" fish by swimming in a group, the outer birds in the group doing the herding, while the inner birds feed.

Wood Storks are large wading birds in the family ciconiidae. It is the only stork which breeds in North America, and is endangered there. Breeding populations exist in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. Its prey consists primarily of fish, frogs and large insects.
